(September 6, 2005 – Weirs, NH). Visit the Lake Winnipesaukee
Historical Society Museum in the Weirs on Saturday, September
24th from 10 am to 2 pm for an Open House featuring special
activities and the opportunity to win free gifts.
Two local authors will be on hand to sign their books,
both available for sale at the LWHS Museum Store. Whether
you’re interested in fishing on the Big Lake or probing
a murder mystery in a grand resort hotel, these books are
a “must have” to fill the libraries of local
history buffs.
Hal Lyon, a master angler, will be at the Museum from 11
am to 12 noon to sign his book “Angling in the Smile
of the Great Spirit – Six Centuries of Wisdom from
the Master Anglers of Lake Winnipesaukee.”
Mark Okrant, well known in the NH travel and tourism industry
through the Institute for New Hampshire Studies, will be
available from 12 noon to 2 pm to sign his recent book “A
Last Resort,” a murder mystery set at one of New England’s
most popular and celebrated resorts, The BALSAMS Grand Resort
Hotel.
Museum visitors may enter to win free LWHS Museum Store
gift bags filled with items of historical interest. Free
admission tickets will be given away every hour to local
history museums such as the Wright Museum of Wolfeboro and
Canterbury Shaker Village, as well as statewide museums
including the Children’s Museum of Portsmouth, The
Fort at No. 4 Living History Museum (Charlestown, NH), The
Millyard Museum (Manchester), the Museum of New Hampshire
History (Concord), and Strawberry Banke (Portsmouth).
“The Open House is a great opportunity to visit with
local authors and register to win free gifts from our museum
and other museums across the state,” stated Ann Sprague,
executive director. “Be sure to view our latest exhibits
on the lake’s history and heritage.”
Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of Hart’s
Turkey Farm Restaurant. Admission is free and the museum
is handicapped accessible.
The Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society was established
in 1985 to preserve and promote the history of Lake Winnipesaukee
and vicinity. The Museum, located directly on Route 3 next
door to Funspot, is open year round, Monday through Saturday
